BETHESDA, MD, February 18, 2026— Ashland Inc. demonstrated its commitment to environmental stewardship by achieving WHC Certification, powered by Tandem Global, for its Wildlife Habitat Council certification at the former Brunswick Plant and the 009 Landfill Site in Brunswick, Georgia.
Both properties have habitats that were designated as Certified Gold, signifying leadership among the over 600 WHC Certification programs. Programs are given a Certified, Silver Certified or Gold Certified designation.
“The Brunswick Plant and the 009 Landfill wildlife habitat are recognized as meeting the strict requirements of WHC Certification,” said Margaret O’Gorman, Chief Executive Officer, Tandem Global. “Companies achieving WHC Certification, like Ashland, are environmental leaders, voluntarily managing their lands to support sustainable ecosystems and the communities that surround them.”
About the former Brunswick Plant habitat
The wildflower habitat was planted with a southeast coastal wildflower mix instead of the typical non-native turf grass in order to benefit pollinating species and promote iodiversity. Installation and maintainenance of bird boxes provide additional habitat for native birds and allows for monitoring native avian populations.
About 009 Landfill habitat
Once remediation goals were met, Ashland partnered with Tandem Global to transform the rehabilitated land into thriving natural habitat. Nest boxes for cavity nesting birds were installed, basking logs and cover boards added for reptiles and amphibians, and a pollinator hotel established to support insects, all enhancing native biodiversity. Wildlife cameras document mammals such as red foxes and white-tailed deer, as well as abundant bird, reptile, and amphibian activity around the restored wetlands and meadows.
The transformation of the former 009 Landfill demonstrates how responsible, forward-looking industrial cleanup can move beyond mitigation to achieve meaningful ecological restoration, addressing past environmental impacts while delivering lasting benefits to both biodiversity and the surrounding community.
